Single core double insulated cable is a widely used electrical cable designed to provide enhanced safety and durability in a compact form. It consists of a single conductor surrounded by two distinct layers of insulation, offering improved mechanical strength and electrical protection compared to single‑insulated designs. This type of cable is commonly used in fixed installations, internal wiring of electrical equipment, lighting circuits, and various low‑voltage applications where reliability and safety are essential.The core of the cable is typically made from copper or aluminium. In domestic and commercial buildings, such cables can be installed in conduits, trunking, or directly clipped to surfaces, provided that local regulations are followed.From a regulatory perspective, single core double insulated cables are designed to meet relevant national or international standards that specify construction, test methods, and performance criteria. Typical tests include insulation resistance, dielectric strength, bending performance, and thermal endurance.
